Annie is always happy. She couldn't wait to start her new 5 day a week schedule. In fact she pretty much gets mad at me if I pick her up too early. I had planned to head down to get her around 3:30 everyday, which is about when I get home from getting Charlie. She's informed that's too early though and would like to stay until about 4:45 so she has time for last recess and snack. Since she's in charge...that's what I do now.
Charlie. Not always happy. He has always loved learning and reading and other academic things but that doesn't necessarily mean he loves school. Kindergarten was out in a portable building, separate from the big kids, and recess was always kindergarteners only.
Now he's in the big building and there are 12 year olds walking the halls and like scary second graders at recess with him. The most traumatizing part is before school when the whole school is out on the playground waiting for the bell to ring.
The first couple of days were SO HARD! On the 3rd day I was standing on the path we take to get home after dropping him off and I was just watching him to see what he was going to do. He just went and got in line and waited for the bell to ring. The other 599 kids were on the playground or running around in the field. A dad walked by me and said 'having a hard time walking away today?' and I just like stammered and turned red felt like an idiot and a crazy overprotective mom. Of course he was going to be fine. He's a nice boy and no one picks on nice boys right? They admire and respect them right?
We just finished day 8 and things are much better. He actually told me he likes 1st grade better than kindergarten because it's longer. He also said he's a bit bored, but I'll take bored over anxious anyday.

As a former "painfully shy child" - just know I gre out of it and by the 6th grade my teacher said I'd either be a lawyer or a journalist because I talked sooo much! :)
