I'm supposed to be putting up Christmas decorations, or folding laundry, or working on picture calender gifts, or walking on the treadmill but I can't because ....Mama got a tablet today! It's just an HP thingamajig that we found while scouring the ads yesterday. Office Depot was having some deal where if you bought a computer they'd let you buy this tablet for $150 (normally $500). *Lucky* for me Matt's computer got the blue screen of death yesterday (coincidence?).
Like the good wife that I am I offered to get up at 6:30 and get him a new computer if I could get the tablet too. And we could call it my Christmas present but I'd need to open it right away. Lesson for those new to adulthood or marriage: thats a normal way to act as an adult in a marriage. Don't ever just do something because its nice or it would help your family's budget. Always negotiate to get a tablet out of the deal. And demand that you get to use it right away and not have to wait to open it, this is also normal and mature behavior.
By the by, I can't put this thing down, its so fun! Did you know you can check out books from the library and read them on your tablet? Charlie and I checked out some books that he wants to read tomorrow. I might even read a book too. Of course I'd have to stop playing around and actually read but I think by tomorrow I might be ready for such a challenge.
Happy Black Friday to me!
Actually there are more Black Friday confessions. I totally agree with celebrating one holiday at a time and I feel very bad for all the retail employees who had to work at midnight, but since it was happening and me staying in bed silently protesting wasn't going to give them any more time with their families I decided to just say screw it and hit the mall. So I got home at 3 am from my midnight trip to the mall, climbed into bed in my clothes, set my alarm for 3.5 hours later and took a little nap. At 6:30 I flew out of bed, in yesterday's clothes, and headed out for our important electronic purchases.
I got to the northside Office Depot and they were already out of the tablets (even though their ad said they opened at 7 and I was standing there talking to the manager at 6:50 by the doors that had clearly been opened for quite some time?). The super nice manager, hungry for my husband's money offered to call the downtown store to see if they had any left, they did and their nice manager Jeff offered to put my name on it. I high fived the northside manager, jumped in the mini-van, and drove like a stereotypical crazy Black Friday shopping housewife towards the downtown store. About halfway there I realized I didn't ask if they still had the computer I was supposed to buy for Matt, no computer would mean no tablet.
I walked in the store and I kid you not, Manager Jeff was waiting for me by the front door. I say "Jeff?", he says "Jeannette?", we hug each other with our eyes, and he finds me my tablet AND Matt's computer. Phew.
So very proud of myself today. I *saved* my hardworking husband so much money today! At least that's how I read the story.
