Last weekend we stayed with some friends in the Seattle area. Sunday morning we took the kids on a hike to the Ice Caves near Silverton.
Before we started Charlie read all the rules that were posted by the trailhead. One of the rules was 'do not walk on the ice caves and do not walk on the base of the mountain'. When we got to the base of the mountain there were tons of people walking on the snow so Matt and I started to as well.
Charlie reminded us we weren't supposed to and like total tourists we were like "everyone else is doing it, I'm sure it's fine". Guess where this is going? Seconds later the ranger comes running up and tells everyone to get off the snow. Apparently the caves were under the snow and the snow could have collapsed at any time. Next time we'll consider listening to the only one in the group who read the rules, even if he is only 5 years old.
Thanks Ryan and Cristy for housing us and entertaining us!
