MS Walk

So a few weeks ago a dear friend of mine from work was diagnosed with MS. She's young, healthy, and this news seems to have come out of nowhere.

Here are some facts about the disease that my friend shared with us:

• 85% of new diagnosis’ are a relapsing form of the disease meaning there are exacerbations (or attacks) and remissions with little progression for years

• 75% of people with MS never end up with a walker or wheelchair

• There are several pharmaceutical treatments now that alter the course of the disease and can put off remissions for years

• There has been more progress in the last 10 years in the treatment of MS than in the prior history of the disease combined

While all of this sounds very positive, it's still pretty stinkin' scary to think about the battle my little 27 year old friend has ahead of her. I just talked to her today and she was all happy about getting feeling back in her fingers. What? My biggest worry today was whether or not my co-workers would like the cake pops I made them. She also said she had lost her vision in one of her eyes and it's back most of the time. It goes away though when she gets too warm - so no baths or exercising too hard for her. Again, what?

So to show our support our office is sponsoring a team for the local Spokane MS walk on April 3rd. If you would like to join our little team or would just like to donate to the cause click here. Our firm has committed to raising $5,000 for the cause and I believe we're just over half way there, every little bit helps though!
