The caking process.

My mom used to make my sister and I doll cakes when we were growing up and it dawned on me a couple of weeks ago that maybe I too could pull that off and create some happy memories for my little baby.

I know she won't remember this one, which was all the more reason why I needed to do it. I needed the practice so that when she does remember the cakes will actually be awesome.

So I started with my ice cream cake pan. I make a white cake in it and then instead of filling it with ice cream (which I figured would melt by the time I finished 'designing' her dress) I filled it with whip cream and strawberries. Since the cake will be in the freezer until her party in 3 days I'm thinking the whip cream will probably taste a little like ice cream when we actually eat it, which is just fine by me. Then I put in my naked-doll-on-a-stick and frosted away.

And away...
And away. I realized once I started with the purple that I should have stopped when I was at the point pictured above. I just got so excited with the project that I went a little too far. I would never buy a butter colored dress with grayish/purple leaves on it so why would I make my doll-on-a-stick wear one?
This is the almost finished product. I added some purple spaghetti straps but didn't manage to take a picture after doing so. Again, I learned from this process that less is more so next year's cake should be a little more on the tasteful side.

While I was working on the cake my little caker crawled around my feet, threw Tupperware lids at my feet, and ate day old Cheerios off the floor. I finally picked her up and put her in her chair where she was happy to lick frosting off a plate for a good 45 minutes.

I'm sure I'll pay for that move when I change her morning diaper but it's what I had to do to survive the moment.
.
So that was the process. In a few days I'll put up some pics of Annie enjoying, I mean destroying, my labors!
